McDonald’s McTrax: Play The Placemat

Yes, that’s a real thing. By using conductive ink on a paper placemat, McDonald’s has turned their Netherlands franchises into bluetooth compatible mobile studios (because where else would this be?).

Using an incredibly thin circuit board which boasts 26 different touchpoints, the McTrax Placemat offers audio looping, synthesizers, and even voice recordings. According to TBWA creative technologist Radha Pleijsant and digital design lead Jan Jesse Bakker, the smartphone is simply the speaker and screen of the setup.

Have a look at the advertisement below, and we’ll keep our fingers crossed for this novelty to make its way stateside.
